The next generation of insect farms for animal feed

We farm black soldier flies as a reliable, cost-effective and sustainable source of protein to feed animals.

Insect farming is an emerging practice, where waste is fed directly to insects. This converts low value biomass into higher value insect mass, rich in proteins, fats and chitin. Insects can then be used as sustainable inputs for a variety of sectors, most notably high quality animal feeds demanded by the aquaculture sector & premium pet food markets.

We partner with various food manufacturing companies to dispose their food waste. If you have a food manufacturing facility or have a constant food waste stream that requires disposal, do reach out to us below.

At Insect Feed Technologies, we focus on transforming raw insect biomass into functional fish feed for target fish species

While the insect farming industry is still nascent, there are increasingly many companies working towards scaling their operations and producing many thousands of tonnes of insect protein yearly.

A key challenge remains the processing of insects into processed animal feed. While it is possible to merely dry insects and mill them into a powder, this misses many potential nutritional, health and well-being benefits brought through a rich medium like insects.

We work with our aquaculture partners to develop functional fish feed for specific species such as marble goby, grouper and the pacific white shrimp. If you own an aquaculture facility, do reach out to us to find out more below.

Our founding story

Working as a government officer at Enterprise Singapore helping companies and startups to be globally competitive, Sean was part of a taskforce focused discovering agrifood opportunities as part of Singapore's 30 by 30 food production goal.

He witnessed first-hand how food security was a priority for import-reliant countries like Singapore and yet how much food waste was produced. He saw the challenges faced by local farms including high feed costs, risk of disease and knew that insects could be the solution, solving the paradox of food waste.

Sean quit his job to be an insect farmer and launched Insect Feed Technologies in 2020 to farm the black soldier fly as a cost-effective, nutritious and sustainable alternative component of fish feed compared to soy and fishmeal.

We're a diverse team

We come from different backgrounds - marine biology, aquaculture systems, engineering, marketing. We share one common goal - to change the way our agricultural and aquaculture farm systems currently operate by building a scalable insect farm and harnessing the potential of the black soldier fly through innovation and technology.
